Wish there was a magic remedy to show you how to remove skin tags? Do you procrastinate about going to the doctor?

I know I do. I especially hate going in for something that isn’t even a real serious problem to begin with because they usually just pooh pooh it anyway. Either that or charge you an arm and a leg to do a 5-minute procedure.

But what can you do about these blemishes? People would always tell me mine were not noticeable but I certainly noticed them and they sure bothered and embarrassed me. I felt like I had a neon sign pointing right to the skin tag on my forehead saying “look here!”

I was tempted to just cut it off but I was afraid I would either make it look worse or it would bleed uncontrollably. I know, very silly to think that, but I just wasn’t sure.

So I had a look around and lo and behold, many people were discussing this online and several of them had gone so far as to do just what I had contemplated, snipped them right off. I was still too chicken though.

I carried on with my annoying extra skin for a while and then started thinking about it again. It couldn’t be that bad could it? After all it was pretty small!

I finally decided to that I would try this at-home remedy, so I actually went to the trouble of boiling and sterilizing a small pair of nail scissors, I then got some ice and held it on the site for a short time until it felt numb. Finally, I snipped off the skin tag. I will not say it didn’t hurt but it wasn’t too terribly bad. Would I do it again? Maybe. But I will say, though, that if it was a larger tag I would probably not have done it. The only reason I was able to get up the courage to try it was that it was pretty small. Oh and make sure to use sharp scissors or clippers. Dull ones would really hurt!

Come to think of it, I think in the future I might just go in to the doctor’s office instead.

So if you are on a quest to find out how to remove skin tags, I can verify that this home remedy does indeed work. But I would not recommend this method for larger areas.

A skin tag is a small benign growth that often shows up in areas where skin rubs together. Removal is usually accomplished by a doctor who might freeze the tag or snip it off, depending on the size.

There is a problem though if you don’t have insurance to cover this procedure. Since it is considered purely cosmetic, this happens a lot where you end up with a huge doctor bill for this simple procedure.

Given this, many people have started to think about home remedies and ways to get rid of these pesky things. Is DIY skin tag removal the way to go? And how would you go about it anyway?

There are a number of do-it-yourself methods floating around, some that may work and some that definitely won’t. There is the string procedure where you tie a piece of string or thread as tightly as possible around the tag and simply wait for it to fall off. What are the pros and cons of this? Well it’s fast and you can do it at home without spending money, so that’s a pro. But on the other hand, it tends to get very painful as you wait for it to fall off, and there is no telling how long it will take. Does it work? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Another method some people use is simply cutting the tag off. The obvious benefit is it’s gone immediately and there is no waiting around for it to drop off. However, again, there is the issue of pain and also bleeding. For tiny tags this is really a pretty good alternative to the doctor. For larger ones, not so much.

So is DIY skin tag removal the way to go these days? It really depends on your pain threshold and whether you would prefer to just bite the bullet and pay for a visit to the dermatologist or if you’d just like to give these DIY remedies a try at home.

Well here is something you probably would rather not discuss at your next social gathering – vaginal skin tags.

What are they? Very simply, they are just a growth of benign excess skin. They are noncancerous and not dangerous. They don’t even have to be removed but the problem is they are bothersome and not too appealing to look at, so women usually opt to have them removed. This removal process is easy and can be done by your gynecologist at a simple afternoon office visit.

If you don’t decide to have them removed, it is wise to keep an eye on them to be sure they don’t change in size. They may actually get a little bigger over time but if they get significantly larger you may want to see your doctor. So observation over time is a good practice.

Some women have noticed that right before and during their periods their vaginal skin tags tend to swell up and seem almost to the point that they appear to be ready to burst (they won’t, don’t worry). This could be due to hormonal changes and they usually shrink right back down after your period.

These tags as a rule are not painful but occasionally they may snag on something (like your clothes) or they may rub against adjacent skin and become twisted which actually can be quite painful and tender. If this is happening on a regular basis you may want to get it taken off. If you decide to go this route it is likely that your insurance company will not foot the bill since this is considered a cosmetic surgery and not a necessary procedure.

Often you can just cut the offending skin tag off yourself but those in the vaginal area may be much more painful than other areas of the body.

Your dermatologist may refer to them as acrochordons, papillomas, fibroepithelial polyps, filoform, or pedunculated benign moles, but most people refer to these bothersome blights as skin tags. A lot of people have these at some point in their life, sometimes many of them. What causes skin tags and what are they?

They are very simply an overgrowth or hyperplasia of the epidermis or outside layer of the skin. They often occur as you grow older and are usually most prominent in middle age. Nothing has been proven to cause them but some conditions, such as being overweight, are thought to encourage their growth. Insulin fluctuations are also thought to be one of the possible causes as well as high levels of growth factors such as during pregnancy.

Skin tags normally occur most often in the eyelid area, the upper chest, and the groin, although they may actually pop up pretty much anywhere you have skin, so that leaves a lot of real estate open.

There is no known prevention per se but what you can do is watch for them and when they start to appear (they appear first as a tiny bump), and then as soon as you can see a tag is forming with a small stalk that attaches it to the skin, snip it off with fingernail clippers or small scissors. It’s best to do this early because they larger you allow them to grow, the more painful the excision of them will be.

If you wait too long you may have to have them removed at an office visit to your dermatologist, which will of course cost you money and, quite simply, is just a bother. But if you do have them taken off they will normally either freeze them off or excise them. It’s fairly painless so not much to worry about.

So although skin tag causes can vary, they are not dangerous and not usually anything to be too worried about other than the cosmetic issues.

Are you wondering how to remove skin tags or if it’s even possible? It’s actually not a very difficult process and doctors can easily do this for you in the office without much muss or fuss. However, the downside is that since this is not considered a necessary procedure, you may find that your insurance company will give you a hard time about it.

This poses a problem for those looking to get rid of skin tags. I actually did have one removed at the office years ago but honestly they charged a totally outrageous amount. I forget what is was but I was shocked when I got the bill. My insurance of course did not pay for it.

I have done some research online and found some people simply snip off the little buggers. I’m a bit squeamish so that method did not really appeal to me, although I suppose if it was very tiny it would be okay.

Apparently you can also tie a string around them and cut off the blood supply, causing them to fall off. I am actually not sure if this method would really work or not but it is one of the home remedies that is out there floating around, so apparently some have tried it and had success.

On researching further, I found another account of someone who mentioned they placed nail polish on their tag and it fell off after a few days. Again, this sounds sort of iffy and possibly dangerous. I’d have some worry about infection with this method and also the method involving string.

So basically when it comes down to how to remove skin tags, the best thing obviously is to just let a doctor remove it. But if you want to save money, be sure to research the various home remedies floating about and make sure there are testimonials from others that can vouch for their effectiveness. If the method is tried and true it just might save you a visit to your physician and an unwanted bill.

The process of removing skin tags is not a complicated one, but you would think it was if you noticed what dermatologists charge for this simple procedure these days.

Some people are prone to this problem and just have a horrible time with it. Others are never bothered with it at all. No one really knows the exact reason but some thought is given to the possibility that overweight people have more of an issue with skin tags simply because of the skin rubbing together. This makes sense in some cases but not all since one of the most common places you may have these is on your eyelid. Since eyelids are not rubbing against anything (let’s hope), that theory seems to have some holes.

But how can you get rid of them? Well, some doctors advise that you can just slice them off with a razor or cut them with a pair of scissors. Some, like myself, might find that hard to stomach. It sounds a bit on the painful side to me, and I’d worry about bleeding and possible infection. If you do go this route, be sure to have some styptic powder on hand to staunch any blood flow immediately. If the tag is very small it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Now, if your skin tag is located in the more delicate groin area, it is not advisable to use this method of removal. In this case you may want to go ahead and bite the bullet and see your dermatologist or gynecologist and find out if they recommend removal.

Wart treatment like Compound W is said to be one way to treat these annoying “moles” as some people call them, although they are technically not moles or warts.
